SwampButt Underwear Customers Help Pets Displaced by Hurricane Harvey. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, SwampButt Underwear (www.swampbutt.com) customers, and the company, donated a little over $4400.00 to the Brazoria County SPCA (https://spcabc.wordpress.com). This was the first time SwampButt Underwear had ever attempted a fund-raising event of any type in the company’s 11-month history. The money was and will be used to help the hundreds of animals that were displaced and abandoned during Hurricane Harvey. SwampButt Underwear is in Lake Jackson, Texas which is 50 miles south of downtown Houston and inside of 10 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.
Motivation Leads to Action
Company owner and founder Harold Nicoll decided to get involved when he saw a friends’ Facebook Post of a family of dogs that she and her family rescued and later adopted. “My friend lives near the gulf and along a major waterway that was flooding,” Nicoll said.  “They were in the process of evacuating when they learned that these dogs were left behind by their former owners, who had already evacuated,” he went on. “With the water rising from storm surge and record rainfall, these dogs would have almost certainly died. Pets like these cannot make decisions on their own, they depend on humans. This was particularly heartbreaking given that there were newborn puppies involved. So, we decided to start a fund raiser and it was very successful.”
More than Doubled the Goal
The company’s fund raising goal was $2,000.00 but was more than doubled by SwampButt Underwear customers and others who learned of the campaign via social media, the company’s website and reports in the press. Nicoll and his colleagues found the experience gratifying and reassuring for several reasons. “Most donations were smaller amounts, $10.00, or $20.00 with people telling us they wished they could do more,” Nicoll said. “This and other instances of generosity and selfless giving throughout southeast Texas reminded people here in the U.S. that we are all our brothers or sisters or family pet’s keeper.”
