LAKE JACKSON, Texas, November 6, 2026 — Does August Heat Leave a November Advantage? November brings cooler football weather, but does a team’s summer environment still matter? SwampButt Underwear’s Scale of Sultry is testing that question with its newly posted Week 10 college football selections.
The revised Scale of Sultry model compares each school’s fixed August 15 temperature-and-humidity score with its opponent’s baseline. The school with the higher baseline receives the model’s selection. Stadium conditions near kickoff provide the context for examining whether that potential advantage grows in hotter, more humid games—and fades when conditions cool.
Among this week’s selections are Houston over Cincinnati, Alabama over LSU, Arizona State over Colorado, Florida over Oklahoma and Texas over Missouri.
Houston’s August 15 baseline is 6.6 on the project’s 1–10 scale, compared with Cincinnati’s 4.6. The saved kickoff forecast for their November 7 game calls for 80 degrees and 39 percent relative humidity. Those conditions offer a warmer-weather comparison with games such as BYU at Utah, where the saved kickoff temperature is 51 degrees.
The central question is whether schools from more sultry environments win more frequently—and whether game-day weather changes that relationship. A single day’s campus weather is a geographic comparison, not a measurement of players’ training exposure or physical conditioning.
The Week 10 Scale of Sultry page includes eight featured Saturday matchups and the complete remaining-game selections. Calculations made after a game’s scheduled kickoff are clearly labeled retrospective and excluded from the revised model’s pregame record.
Kickoff forecasts were saved November 3. They are forecasts, not observed game conditions. The revised August 15 model is tracked separately from the project’s earlier published predictions.
