SwampButt Underwear Sweating Out Week One Of The College Football Season…
Mismanaged Expectations Lead to Unexpected Outcomes and Disappointment
September 3, 2025 (Lake Jackson, TX) If there is a storyline for week 1 of the 2025 NCAA College Football Season, it is how a summer full of prediction turned out to be so wrong in so many different places. Arch Manning at Texas stank up most of Ohio (a real trick given the existing smell). Bill Belichick, coach at North Carolina, looked lost in his hapless debut against TCU losing 41-14. Alabama bumbled its way to embarrassment at the hands of Florida State, a school with just 2 wins last season. While none of these people are on any ‘hot seat’ it is clear that a lot of experts, podcasters, pundits, and prognosticators, were all wrong about a whole lot. What happened? And why aren’t those guys all fired? SwampButt Underwear Sweating Out Week One Of The College Football Season.
Arch Manning, Texas

Texas was ranked number one in the preseason polls. Starting quarterback and football royalty Arch Manning was the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy and a projected first round draft pick for the NFL as recently as Friday morning. On Saturday, Manning’s first pass bounced in front of his receiver. At halftime he completed 5 passes for a whopping 17 yards. He finished 17-30 for 170 yards. Texas lost 14-7, a game they should have won for several reasons. Instead of taking field goals on 4th and goal a couple of times, the horns went for it and were turned away. “Three points is way ahead of no points,” said often fired former coach and SwampButt Underwear spokesman Nick Heraldson. “At one point in the game, Manning had more commercial endorsements than completions. He is the definition of image and style over substance. And how many of those sponsors will be asking for a refund?” Online, fans stated that Ohio State was really good, Texas was on the road and that Manning had first games starter jitters, plus many more excuses for his poor performance. But those excuses were just that. “Manning was billed as this elite performer. But a truly elite performer is the one who overcomes jitters on the road against a really good team and prevails,” Heraldson went on. “Any quarterback from at least 50 other schools could have performed better on that field than Manning did against Ohio State. Heraldson concluded, “Manning is not a complete bust yet, there is a lot of football left. But if anyone at Texas believes they are national title contenders with him at quarterback, they are courting a lot of serious disappointment.” Ohio State was number one and Texas fell to seventh in the September 2, 2025, AP Poll.

Bill Belechick, North Carolina
You hate to say that without Tom Brady, Bill Belichick does not have all those Super Bowl Rings or overall coaching success. But after Monday night’s bare-bottomed spanking against TCU, it sure looks that way. While some on X billed Belichick’s as the ‘most anticipated coaching debut in history’ it went south in a big hurry. “There was those glorious few minutes that North Carolina was ahead, then the football gods recognized the ‘heels’ and it all went to poop,” Heraldson said. It is worth remembering that TCU played for the national finals two years ago and won nine games in ’24. North Carolina has 70 new players on campus and will need to regroup in a big hurry. Prediction, if Belichick stays in Chapel Hill, he will be very successful. “No one can take those Super Bowl Rings away from coach,” Heraldson said. “Plenty of kids will want to play for him.” In fact, while the example comes from college basketball, University of Houston Men’s Basketball Coach Kelvin Sampson is an example of what an experienced coach with professional experience can do with the right amount of ambition and resources. “North Carolina is traditionally a basketball school, so the heat should stay off Belichick and diminish once they have basketball’s ‘midnight madness,’ Heraldson concluded.
Florida State Over Alabama

Maybe its cultural. The difference between football at Washington (the school current Alabama Coach Ken DeBoer came from) and the same game at Alabama. Replacing a six-time national champion was always going to be one of the hardest jobs in sports. To fix what was not broken, second year Alabama head coach Ken DeBoer took the perfect situation and broke it. Why take a job like the one at Alabama when there is nowhere to go but down? One reason, Coach Nick Saban retired but left behind great recruiting classes. Another was the overall stability of the Alabama program. The only thing to do in this case was say ‘whatever Coach Saban did, let’s do that.’ Sadly, it looks like DeBoer is confused and surprised by his teams’ performance and is a man with no answers. And while none of these people listed here are candidates for the ‘hot seat’ Coach Kalen DeBoer is definitely warming up. The ‘tide looked uninterested in their opponent. Florida State was the opposite. Coming off a 2-win season, the Seminoles whipped what was a national title contender. Alabama was at least a step slower than Florida State the entire game and looked just plain bored. “Intangible qualities like effort, discipline and competitiveness were absent from the much more talented Crimson Tide,” Heraldson said. “Like most sports, but especially college, the most important space is between the ears of the players and coaches. Mental preparation and confidence in your teammates cannot be timed with a digital time recording device (once known as a stopwatch) but it is evident when the team with the most talent gets ‘pantsed’ the way Alabama was.”
Week One Takeaways
- Texas is not back, and Arch Manning has a lot to prove to overcome what he did not do against Ohio State.
- TCU is really good.
- Florida State has returned to form upsetting an underachieving Alabama team.
- Bill Belichickchik arrived to a ‘bare cupboard’ at North Carolina. Given time, the cache associated with six Super Bowl championships and his ability as a coach will attract a lot of talent.
- Miami is for real after beating Notre Dame.
- LSU could win the SEC West and contend for a title after beating Clemson in their stadium.
- Auburn is improved as is Baylor. But Auburn Coach Hugh Freeze is in a deep hole at Auburn. It will take more than a winning record to remain at Auburn.
- Baylor’s coach Dave Aranda will have to be more than an amiable loser to remain in Waco. Although the case could be made that anyone wanting a big payday and ticket out of Waco might just…
