Scale of Sultry Picks Texas and Texas A&M in Week 4 Road Games

Weather-based model favors the Longhorns at Tennessee and gives the Aggies a narrow edge at LSU.

LAKE JACKSON, Texas, Sept. 26, 2026 — The SwampButt Underwear Scale of Sultry picks Texas to win at Tennessee and Texas A&M to win at LSU in two of its eight featured college football games this weekend.

The Scale uses temperature, relative humidity and sunlight to estimate how sultry conditions feel. Its football predictions test a premise: Teams accustomed to hotter, more humid conditions may have a climate-conditioning advantage over their opponents.

To make each pick, the model compares weather forecasts near the two teams’ home venues at approximately the scheduled kickoff time. The team with the higher home-location score receives the pick. A separate game-site score describes expected conditions where the teams will play.

Those home-location forecasts are proxies for possible heat acclimatization—not measurements of players’ fitness, training conditions or recent heat exposure. The model does not consider talent, injuries, coaching, team statistics or betting odds.

Through Week 3, including its Week 0 pilot, the Scale recorded 146 correct picks in 258 completed games, a 146–112 record and 56.6% accuracy rate. That record tracks its predictions; it does not establish that weather caused the outcomes.

Texas at Tennessee

For Saturday’s noon Eastern kickoff, the forecast near Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium scores 3.8 out of 10, classified as “a little sultry.” At the same time, the forecast near Texas’ home venue in Austin scores 6.0.

The higher Austin score gives Texas the Scale’s pick, even though the game itself is not expected to be particularly sultry.

Texas A&M at LSU

The Aggies’ selection rests on a smaller difference. At Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. Eastern kickoff, the forecast near Texas A&M’s home venue in College Station scores 5.8, compared with 5.5 at LSU’s home venue in Baton Rouge.

That 0.3-point difference gives Texas A&M the pick. Baton Rouge’s game-site score falls in the “sultry” category.

“The Tennessee forecast shows that a game does not have to be oppressively hot for the teams’ home conditions to differ,” said Nick Heraldson, a spokesman for SwampButt Underwear. “The A&M–LSU prediction is much tighter. These picks give us a way to test whether familiarity with hotter, stickier conditions matters on game day.”

The Week 4 Slate

The other featured picks are Florida International over Long Island University, Miami over Central Michigan, Baylor over Colorado, UCF over TCU, Ole Miss over Florida and USC over Oregon.

All 71 Week 4 forecasts were recalculated Sept. 23 using updated weather forecasts. Eighteen selections changed from the previous day’s run; the Texas and Texas A&M picks remained unchanged. The weather inputs, calculations and earlier selections are preserved in the Week 4 calculation record.

From Fabric Drying to Football

SwampButt Underwear developed the Scale to explore how weather affects moisture evaporation and fabric drying, including comparisons between its specially treated Lycra/Spandex and traditional underwear fabrics.
